Get your service listed on Skype Find

By My status Scott Davison on October 4, 2007 in News and updates.

Great news for all our Skype Prime call providers, you can now add your listings to the Skype Find Directory so your service can be found by Skype users. I know this is something you have all been waiting for, so I’ll get straight to the point. Here’s how it is done:

How to add your listing

1. If you have not already done so, the first thing you need to do is [set yourself up as a Call Provider](http://www.skype.com/help/guides/skypeprime_create/).

2. Go to the Skype Find section in Skype and click on the ‘Open Skype Find’ link at the top of the page.

3. Click on the link in the right hand column ‘add your service’ (if you are not set up as a Call Provider, you will not see this link)

add%20service.PNG

4 Then fill out the form to add your listing. Please be as specific as possible, the more specific your listing, the better quality of caller you will get. Please list relevant keywords to help users find you.

5. You can go back and re-edit your listing at anytime to change or update your listing.

Where will it appear?

The Skype Prime listings will appear in the Skype Find directory. When users search for a business or keyword, relevant Skype Prime listings appear at the top of the results as a ‘paid service’. See below for an example or better still, just add your listing and then do a search for it.

First payday

By My status Andrus on August 2, 2007 in News and updates.

Today some of you received an email saying You've got new funds!. Indeed, we made the first payouts to those that had provided Skype Prime services in March.

Congratulations to all early adopters of Skype Prime out there! Now, you may or may have noticed that you didn't become a millionaire. Or the fact that it took us a while to pay out your money. Please bear in mind that Skype Prime is still in Beta status and expect a better product (and paydays) in the future.

Learn Dutch using Skype Prime

By My status Andrus on July 24, 2007 in Skype Prime ideas.

Found a nice example of using Skype Prime for language lessons. Say it in Dutch Language School provides lessons over Skype in addition to their emails, ebooks, podcasts and summer courses. As they put it:

>As a Skype student you only need an internet connection, a headset and motivation.

It looks like they have a free trial, too. I just signed up for that to dust off my Dutch skills.

Update July 27th. I have tried out the Skype Prime Dutch lesson now (and realized how rusty my Dutch had gotten). The experience was excellent. I particularly liked that Yorien, my teacher, posted new expressions as chat messages as we spoke.

You asked for it - per minute fees reduced

By My status Andrus on July 18, 2007 in News and updates.

Many of you have asked for the minimum service fee to be reduced since we first launched Skype Prime Beta. We’ve taken that on board and now you can set the per-minute price as low as €0.10 (down from €0.40). This should work with any Skype version without upgrading.

Adding Skype Prime links to websites

By My status Andrus on June 19, 2007 in Skype Prime ideas.

If you search for joinskypeprime with any search engine you'll see a wide variety of places how and where people promote their Skype Prime services. Some add the calling link to a forum signature or forum posting, others add it to their blog or describe their service as a sort of classified ad. There are also those who have added a Skype Prime snippet to a blog or website. This looks more professional, but is a bit more difficult to add to forums.

So here's a tip how to make text links nicer. If you just copy-paste a Skype Prime link (you'll get it here) to a blog or forum posting it will not be a very click-inviting link. Consider http://www.skype.com/go/joinskypeprime?call&skypename=echo123. However, if html is enabled on a site, try adding it in the following format:

<a href="longlinkhere">Describe service here</a>

This way the long link above that starts the call to Skype call testing service can look nice and short like this.

Good example of contextual Skype Prime service promotion

By My status Andrus on May 30, 2007 in Skype Prime ideas.

Q: My satellite meter says I have a good signal but the box says signal strength 0. Please help!

A: You are probably pointed to the wrong satellite. Call me for help.

Spotted on Yahoo Answers. This is a good example of how to promote a Skype Prime service without maintaining one's own blog or website. There are lots of people with questions and issues out there and it makes perfect sense to answer their questions on various online forums they turn to.

Custom Buttons for Skype Prime

By My status Andrus on May 25, 2007 in Skype Prime ideas.

aeroinstructor.png

Stumbled upon a nice customization of Skype Prime buttons. And apparently this can be linked to a calendar service to show available service times.

Read more here. We have written about creating banners that show your availability in the Skype Prime promotion guide. And for those less comfortable with creating custom buttons and coding there are standard Skype Prime snippets that can easily be copied onto blogs or websites.

Skype Prime services moved from Tools to Account

By My status Andrus on May 10, 2007 in News and updates.

The new shiny Skype 3.2 for Windows is now available to download. In addition to adding nice features like easy taking photos for your Skype profile and sending money to PayPal users we made existing features easier to find by tweaking some menus. You can now access your Skype Prime services from Account > Skype Prime Beta Services. Actual using the service and charging or paying for calls remained the same.

Directories for Skype Prime

By My status Andrus on May 10, 2007 in Media coverage, Skype Prime ideas.

As most of you have noticed Skype Prime doesn't have a directory, yet. While we are busy building it you can use the user-generated list of services on Skype Forums. It also has links to a couple of user-generated directories, which may be worthwhile to use in the interim.

On a different note this post on Skype Journal encourages people not to count on Skype's directory-to-be-launched, but develop additional ones. As Phil Wolff puts it:

> The point of a directory isn't to make a list. The point is to trigger useful, relevant conversations.

Creating very relevant information is always a good idea. If you've succeeded in it or found a good one, please do let us know via forum or comments.

Use Skypecasts to promote your service

By My status Andrus on May 8, 2007 in Skype Prime ideas.

skypecasts_frontbubbles.pngHosting a Skypecast that is related to your Skype Prime service is a good way to let other Skype users know about your service. And it's free :)

Creating it is easy - simply click on Create a Skypecast in the web directory, describe the Skypecast, set the start time and you're good to go. You can add information about your service and charges to the description of the Skypecast. After you've created it, it will be browsable on the web and it will appear in the Live-tab of most Skype users prior to start.
